to present the winners of the 2004-2005 GTCL League and Cup Club Competition
Saturday September 3 at 5:30 pm, immediately before second round of the tournament

Entry Fee: $60 in advance, $70 cash only on Saturday at the site. Amateur: $20 (in U1800 &

U1600 sections – not eligible for cash prizes). $20 less for Jr (born after Sept 10, 1985,

Sr (65 and older), Women and I.M.’s No discount for Amateur players and only one

discount per player.

The (13th annual) 2003 Toronto Labour Day open drew 134 players and featured a prize fund of $4,750.00.

To summarize the prize recipients: in the Open section, Jura Ochkoos took clear first of $800.00 with 5/6, defeating Michael Dougherty in the last round. Ron Livshits managed clear second with 4.5/6 by winning his last two games, the final round against David Filipovich. He won $600.00. The 3rd, 4th overall and the U2350 prize money, totalling $1150.00, was split 5 ways by the 5 players who finished with 4/6, which were Goran Milicevic, Bryon Nickoloff, Brian Fiedler, Michael Dougherty and junior player Nikolay Noritsyn. Each won $230.00.

In the U2200 section, U of T Chess club president Kit-Sun Ng shared first with Vladimir Rubanovski, both with 4.5/6, winning $237.50 each. Third place of $100 was split between David Southam and Matt Blakely with 4/6 each.

In the Under 2000 section, Pawel Fulmyk took clear first ($300.00)with 5/6, defeating GTCL/OCA president Barry Thorvardson in the last round. Thorvardson split second/third money totalling $275.00 with two junior girs, Angel Xia and Alexandra Benggawan, all with 4.5/6.

The Under 1800 section featured a highly unusual six way tie for first: Diana Golts, Wojtek Fulmyk, Kevin Chung, Jon Hyman, Alex Strojevs and Nick Zimninski all scored 4.5/6 and won $88 each.

The Under 1600 section saw a "Hat-trick" be completed by the Fulmyk brothers, where Michal Fulmyk took clear first with 5.5/6 and winning $ 250.00. All told, the three boys won about $640.00 between them! Matthew Ramenaden, Alex Martchenko and Nick Bainard shared second-third, each winning $75.00. The top unrated player was Ron Giles with 2.5/6, winning $50.

Congratulations to all the prize winners and thanks to all the players who came out to support the event. The event is planned to be continued in 2004. A special thanks to Randy Moysoski for organizing the event which is a favourite of many Toronto chess players since 1991.

The Greater Toronto Chess League invites all interested chess clubs to participate in the upcoming 2005/2006 season of The Greater Toronto Chess League and The GTCL Cup events. The deadline for chess clubs’ submissions is Sept. 25, 2005. To all enrolments, please attach club’s roster with at least 6 players (4 players + 2 reserves). There is no cost of participation in those two events in this season. Moreover, there is a possibility of FIDE rated games, which has to be decided and approved by GTCL executive board (to pay the cost of ratings, etc.) Please find all the rules attached to this message.

Time Control: 60 minutes plus 5 second incrementation for each player.
